One of a kind handmade fishing schooner model

This 'working' sailing model, built by Mathew Richard Massey in 1964, is of a two-masted fishing schooner similar to the two-masted schooner that his brother Nehemiah George Massey sailed on with their father, William Henry, in 1919. A full-size mahogany-framed case is included to protect the model.

A book entitled ‘The Journey & Life of George Massey and Family’, written by Douglas G. Massey, is included with the model schooner and display case. It has a complete history of the boat that the model is taken from. It is also a history of the Massey family in Ladner, the role Massey’s Machine Shop played in the fishing industry and remembers some of the fishing families in Ladner.

Dimensions of model are... 48” (122 cm) long x 40” (102 cm) high x 12” (31 cm) wide

Dimensions of mahogany and plexiglas display case are... 60” wide (152 cm) x 48” (122 cm) high x 14” (36 cm) deep

Included is an appraisal number: AN-04106 dated March 29, 2021, placing the fair market value of this model in its present condition at CDN$5,000.00 and the display case at CDN$3,000.00 totalling $8,000.00. The appraisal was done by a professional scale ship modelling company, Transylvanian Ship Models Ltd., 876 Windjammer Road, Bowen Island, BC.
