Chipped Away

Acrylic on Canvas
The title of my abstract art piece is Chipped Away as it represents the inside of a BlueAgate Crystal. When the rock is cut in half it displays different tones of blue and goldsparkly accents. I chose to resemble my artwork off this beautiful rock because I havemany of them myself and have always found them fascinating. My artwork wasinfluenced by some resin beach artwork that I have seen, and I just loved how thecolors blended together. I wanted to try and make something that had the sameblending of colors, while putting my own twist on it. In order to elevate my piece I addedpumice gel that had a sandy gritty texture to try and resemble the texture the outside ofthe rock has. In addition to the pumice gel, I added some acrylic polymer to give mypiece a shine to it. This also helped the colors blend easier, and give the blended effectthat I wanted. In order to enhance the look of the gradient I layered the acrylics slightlylighter each time. Through this project, I learned many different techniques of usingtextures to amplify my artworks, and add to the meaning of the painting.
