ABOUT COMMON CROWN:
Everyone assumes the bright lights and allure of Hollywood would be a major draw and an enticing career. While working in the movie business was definitely a lot of fun and hard work for twin brothers Andrew Moreau and Damon Moreau, the duo had another passion.
“They were always brewing beer in the garage when they weren’t working on movie or TV sets,” recalls Brock Stuart of Common Crown Brewing. “It became quite a major hobby for them. It wasn't just about home brewing. It had a lot to do with the social aspect of having their friends come by the garage, hang out, talk beer, talk sports, and just that real social aspect is what they kind of really loved about the brewing.”
Common Crown Brewing makes the Brewmaster Blonde Ale, Coppersmith Brown Ale, Journeymen IPA and the Ploughman Hopped Wheat Ale, and all of them are available at Calgary-area Co-op Wine Spirits Beer stores.
Common Crown’s beers use local ingredients whenever possible and the company believes strongly in local, and in community.
“The core belief of the company is to relay the message of the old dynamic of interacting with others, meeting new people and learning new stories,” says Stuart. “That’s what really the brewery is focused on. In terms of the quality of the beer, we passionately believe our beer is better tasting than other competing craft beers. We are really sincere about the consistency and quality and are constantly in pursuit of perfecting the recipes.”
So what is a Common Crown? Stuart says it’s about the many hats we all wear. While our ‘crowns’ aren’t gilded and jewelled, they do say a lot about us. Our more common ‘crowns’ might be a baseball cap, chef’s hat, police officer’s cap, and so on.
“It’s about the ones you see and the ones you don’t. “Those hats they define us, who we are and what we do, and they’re a a reflection of our purpose and passion.”
The names of the beer, too, are meant to reflect the average person and their work ethic.
“Those names to us, kind of demonstrate that if people are willing to spend their hard earned money on our beer at the end of the day, then we're going to match their dedication and work ethic in our brewery and try to make the highest quality beer we can.”
