The Bow Summit Birdhouse
- Item is Closed
Beautifully handcrafted and truly one of a kind , this tidy little cottage was named after a high meadow in the headwaters of the Bow River. The main structure of the Bow Summit is constructed from off-cut materials from a Habitat for Humanity Renewal project in High River. The weather resistant roof is constructed from trimmed cedar shingles and is topped with a painted aluminum cap to shed the weather. A twig provides a temporary perch as parents move to and from the nest. The floor slides out for easy cleaning after the chicks have fledged. The cottage measures just 13.5 cm x 18.5 cm with a 2.5 cm hole, which is perfect for our smaller songbirds such as the house wren. A copper shield on the inside prevents squirrels, larger birds and other invaders from gnawing or pecking through the wood to widen the hole and take over the nest.
