Trout Unlimited Canada is pleased to present Eugene S. Vandal as our 2012 Artist of the Year. Born in Red Rock, Ontario in 1950, Eugene's love of drawing started in his early school days. A self-taught artist, he started painting in oils before switching to acrylics in 1988, a medium he finds much more versatile and easier to work with. Eugene's work has always focused on the minute details of nature: the cap of a mushroom, the veins of a leaf, the bark of a tree, the texture of rocks. "I try to keep my style continually evolving in new directions." His unique style of realism now incorporates an enhanced colour palette in the form of unusual and vivid colours that puts a whole new perspective on nature.
