Streetlamp
Laney Tan
Acrylic on Canvas
The subject of my abstract painting is a memory of being out under a streetlamp while it was snowing. I chose to use cool colors like blue and purple to emphasize the cold feeling from the wind and the snow blowing onto me, I also chose to include yellow in my painting to highlight the streetlamp and how the lighting changed the look of the scenery to be warm as opposed to the feeling of being cold. In the middle of my painting there is a figure which symbolizes both a person or a streetlight. The theme of my painting is significant as it was a vivid moment of my life where I could feel every individual feeling and thought going through my head. This was the first time I have done an abstract style painting, I found the process very freeing and forgiving as I was able to represent my emotions in a deeper process as opposed to an actual image.
