Lindsey Bonchek was a young, single mother of three amazing children. Tragically, she died the morning of January 8, 2018, in a house fire, along with her daughter, Madeline (9) and son, Jackson (4). Amidst this tragedy, Lindsey left behind her teenage son, Ben (15), who has been identified as having special needs. Ben has been left without parents, and will require some form of care for the rest of his life. 

Ben is a happy-go-lucky kid who has trouble fully understanding what has happened to him. He remains rooted in the routine and guidance provided by local Oshawa teachers and extended family, whom he adores. However, Ben will graduate in a couple of years and effectively “age out” of much of the specialty supports he currently receives. At that time, the quality of his life will be reliant on the ability of his guardian to invest in providing not just the necessities of life, but tailored services and supports to help him on a daily basis.
