“Koko (and her Kitten All Ball)” is a portrait of the incredible gorilla named Koko who learned sign language. She was part of a research program and as she matured, she eventually signed that she wanted a baby. They wouldn’t allow that, but they got her a kitten instead who she named “All Ball” because of the way he curled up when he slept. There has been some controversy over the conclusions drawn from this research, but regardless, Koko was a beautiful animal who shared a bond with her pet cat and human handlers. She died in 2018. The gold hands in the back ground spell out A-L-L B-A-L-L in American sign language. Acrylic painting 40" x 36" x 2"
