Acrylic on Canvas
My inspiration for this project came from our guest artist Becky McNabb, a local abstract artist. She was very helpful and supportive during the process and had very interesting tips and tricks that came in useful later on. The use of various items such as drywall compound and bubble wrap were used to create the textures, which were both messy and fun to use. Though Becky's personal style differs from my own, the same process and personal attachment to the artwork were used, such as "going with the flow", slowly building layers from the background to the foreground, and adding more or less where it seemed necessary as I went along. My second inspiration was a song titled "Bloody Mary" by Fake Type & Kan Kan, which features the same colour palette of contrasting red and turquoise, as well as various small details such as the thin lines on the red areas or the detailed patterned background. The song also inspired the sharp lines and rough textures due to its angry and violent subject matter, but the calming turquoise and vague imagery even it out so it doesn't appear too aggressive or grotesque. Thank you to Becky McNabb for her wonderful lessons and artwork, and thank you for supporting our exhibition and mental health.
