Acrylic on Canvas
My piece was inspired by many different flowy movements within nature. My main inspiration was the way smoke catches the light and folds over itself as it rises. I also added a spotty texture that reminds me of starfish and other sea animals. I used gesso and drywall filler to build up edges and highlight points. To bring in more of my sea theme I added spots of sand in the black background area and a fishnet texture that mimicked the movements of the coloured areas. To make it pop I put gloss on the lighter areas that I wanted to pop out. I was inspired by the art movement impressionism and pointillism and combined the two to make it my own. I chose to name it Gossamery Earth because gossamery means for something to be light, delicate and wispy which is exactly what I was trying to achieve.
