In 2015, Patricia Bouchard moved from the province of Quebec to Alberta alone, speaking little English, without a job, but with big hopes and dreams. She joined the railroad in 2016 and has embraced each opportunity (the good and the not so good!) as learning experiences. This has led her to become an award winner and part of WXN Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in 2023 in the category of skilled trades. "When you come from a small town of northern Quebec, and you get to stand on a stage with 99 inspiring and powerful women as one of them, the feeling is quite phenomenal."

Please tell us about a turning point or challenge that you feel shaped you as a leader or mentor.

"I was struggling to find a job when I moved to Alberta. CPKC were looking for bilingual Rail Traffic Controllers and I told myself this is where I would shine. Speaking French in an English speaking province. From there, I chose to put forward my strengths rather than focusing on my weaknesses. I now try to lead others to do the same, focus on what you can control."

What would you say is the most important trait or skill to develop for someone working in your field?

"Resilience. There will always be challenges, once you're done one, the next one is there. Being able to move on when face with adversity is essential."

Patricia's session will be delivered virtually.

Each Mentor's session format can be found at the bottom of their auction profile page. The options are virtual (through Zoom, Skype, or other e-conference software), in-person, and flexible (based on the mentee's location and preference).

Connection emails will be sent to the highest bidders within three weeks of the auction end date. Scheduling the session will be the responsibility of the Mentor and winning bidder. Please ensure your contact information is correct so that we can contact you if you win!
