Music is one of the rawest forms of art, and to me, the ability to evoke emotion in my mind is what makes the music good. A lot of my passion comes from the music I listen to. One of my favourite pieces is a heartbreaking, beautiful and unforgettable climactic song by Phoebe Bridgers titled I Know the End. It’s a roller coaster experience simply listening to the song, but listening to it live in concert has to be one of the best experiences of my life so far. Singing along to my favourite musical artist in person to my favourite song gave me the greatest connection I could ever have with a song. The emotion in that moment along with the song’s overall essence creates beautiful imagery in my mind. Imagery that on canvas, doesn’t come near to doing it justice. I used primarily red and blue to match the album cover with lots of purple as a mix of the contrasting colours that also represents my mix of emotions evoked by the song. Symbolism of skeletons from the music video serves as my base symbol: a skull, in which I used a small amount of texture to form, and built up the thickness of it in the centre. The mount in the middle serves to represent the loud and unrestrained peak of the song, thus it’s the focal point. Plus, the concert lights that blazed with it live, naturally I contrasted the rest of the painting with something bright and shining. Just as the peak of the song contrasts the rest being sombre and gloomy.
