When making this painting, I wanted to create a piece that felt calming but also interesting and intriguing. To do this, I chose to use mainly calming, muted colours, as well as a variety of textures to add interest. I added three-dimensional texture in the background of the painting using multiple different supplies, such as impasto. As well, I used many different painting supplies and techniques, such as using numerous types of brushes and palette knives, to add additional texture. I applied these textures and colours in layers to make the painting more interesting and abstract. I enjoyed using a variety of techniques and supplies in this piece, and I especially loved adding three-dimensional texture, as I have never done this in my paintings before. Having the opportunity to explore so many different techniques greatly helped me grow in skill as an artist and I look forward to using these techniques in my art in the future. This is one of my first abstract pieces, so while at times creating this piece was challenging, I really enjoyed the process and I am grateful that it encouraged me to adopt a more creative approach to my art and my thinking.
