Finding Light

Acrylic on Canvas
I have always quite liked sunrises and sunsets, and, most of the time, I see sunrises more so because of the early mornings in winter. They’re always a plus to my morning and almost makes getting up at that time of day worth it. The photo that inspired it is one of my favourite sunrise photos that I have taken, and continues to hold top position if I were to rank them. The colours are vibrant and with the foreground being such a dark colour compared to the bright yellows and pinks of the sky, I think it’s just wonderful. That’s what inspired this painting, if the different shades of pinks and yellows weren’t enough proof as it is, especially where everything is positioned. I found some different techniques and skills along the way of this journey, such as different ways to slather paint over my canvas, ways that I most likely would not have done before this assignment. Texture is also something I truly experimented with whilst working on this project, from a sort of wall plaster that hardened into sharp peaks to large blobs of paint that created round, smooth surfaces. The name, as simple as it may be, I was trying to go for some sort of poetry. The light at the end of the tunnel, finding the good in the bad, a new beginning, a new start. Anything along those lines is what I was aiming for the title to reference.
